Helzberg Diamonds

Helzberg Diamonds asked Dimensional Innovations to develop an experience that was self-driven and high tech to appeal to a younger audience of engaged couples. We created an Augmented Reality table that would allow users to virtually try on rings and take flattering photos to share with their significant other as an extra nudge.

Initially, we were going to use camera-based AR, but this proved to be too unreliable. We next tried a joystick, but we had issues keeping the alignment correct. The dead zone on the joystick kept the rig from returning to an aligned position. We finally settled on a gimbal and accelerometer card at roughly the same distance away underneath the table.

For this installation, I developed the method to rescale the AR rings, built the UI and systems to move through it, and did the initial R&D for the experience.
